Silas stared into his drink. He and his father had gotten into another argument, though thanks to his only true friend in life, he had already forgotten what it the fight was about. The only thing Silas was thankful for, was that he was alone in this place. Silas Chapter 1.4 - First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage.

Life settled into a routine for Silas. He and his father still rarely saw eye to eye, but now instead of getting angry, Silas just closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths. "Yes, father," "No, father," "Of course, father," "Yes, father, I will," and on and on, every day. Silas was saving up to move out soon, hoping to bring Marilyn with him when he did. She was at his house more often than not, anyway, choosing to spend her nights with him instead of at home. Her brother, Jonathan, had moved out years before, so it was just her and her parents these days. Mrs. Swiftstream had left her husband, Tristan, for Jonathan, who was her student not that long ago, and it was the talk of the village for awhile now. When Nathan told Silas that he had built him his own bar for his 18th birthday, Silas couldn't believe it. "I saw you one night a few years ago, you've inherited your mother and I's creativity, it just seems to manifest a little differently than with a canvas or with words." His father had told him, "I wanted you to pursue this, maybe you can start your own bar or something, make a little money from this." Silas immediately began experimenting, using grapes from his mother's garden, which she was ecstatic about. She even started to experiment with the grapes to create more flavorful bunches, scouring the island for seeds she could crossbreed. She created grapes that were so sweet that she couldn't stand it, grapes that were so sour, her face felt permanently puckered after trying one, and everything in between.
